The work includes the construction of six lock chambers and six water saving basins with two control towers, three dams and four waste water treatment plants . Temporary facilities include 2 cofferdams with docks, 4 concrete batching and crushing plants, barge loading and unloading facilities, and support facilities for 10,000 people. During the five year construction period 40 million cubic meters of soil will be excavated and 6 million cubic meters of concrete will be poured.
The project will allow larger vessels to sail between the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean through the Panama Canal. Once completed, the capacity of the Panama Canal will be increased by approximately 50 percent.
SIS Document Control Scope of Work:
SIS successfully set up and is administering the document management and controls between multiple software and users. Information / submittals between the client, ACP, and GUPC (prime contractor) are entered in Oracle's Primavera Contract Management (PCM). The designers/engineers and subcontractors are utilizing Aconex for tracking their drawings, performance specifications, and information. It was originally estimated that there will be 9,000 design drawings, 4,000 RFI’s, 15,000 submittals and over 400,000 pieces of paper to be printed. Additionally, they will process meeting minutes and daily reports.
